'Warped Fields'
2009. San Francico, CA
The design in this image is an excellent representative of the life and flow that can emerge through engaging process. This artwork was born during a phase in which I was exploring ‘process’ as a way to enable emergent art- art which would reveal itself to me as it was being made. These artworks didn't need the strict control that was usually needed by the geometric art- which was my initial entry into large-scale art on the beach. Geometry wasn't offering me much room for spontaneity in the moment and through the study of patterns in nature this new systems approach became clear. I love the simple origins of this seemingly complex design, at how effective the approach is at creating a pretty trippy scenario.
During this process phase I would frequently photograph the artwork so that the design was running off the edges of the camera frame, giving the impression that the design was everywhere just beneath the surface. That has come up again recently with my ‘Tiling’ series.
This image is available as a print. Check out my store, I've got a bunch of other images available in a variety of mediums and sizes good for all budgets and spaces.
