Land art at monumental scale—temporary designs created with sand, clay, and other natural materials. Based in Nevada City, California.

From my Instagram feed:

When the California Academy of Sciences reopened after its dramatic redesign, they held a series of celebrations for which I was commissioned to create an artwork that would be placed within one of the fountains at the Music Concourse. I roamed Golde Islamic tile work was always an inspiration but it can be so complex that I could never figure out how to translate it to the beach. After many years of head scratching I was able to get a simplified version completed. I wrote about this artwork and My most recent carved artworks using scrap wood from our sawmill. I’ve been inspired to create animal depictions in the styles of the places I have visited and feel a connection to in spirit.

I don’t look at these artworks as “my “Glyph” 2023

My art at the beach requires the low tide wet sand to rake, which can be extremely limiting when the proper tide or beach topography are not available. At its core the program asks questions which are answered through t My first time using clay paint within an artwork was for my 2014 contribution to the Trails and Vistas event near Lake Tahoe in which artists and performers create installations and performances along a state park trail. I was stationed in a stand of Coordinated Chaos 13

Scrap mill wood | 2024–2026

My latest experiment- multiple depth levels. It’s tricky to lay out and trickier to router. But I’m digging the result.

These pieces A selection of creations from this past weekend’s beach gathering. Our theme was to connect to a powerful experience with nature and then express that on the sand.

Thank you to everyone who came out, participated, and made space for this shar I initially approached working on scrap wood by trying to squeeze my design within its borders. This piece is the first time I decided to act as if the wood were a fragment of a larger artwork and allow the design to spill off the edges. This piece i ‘Warped Fields’, 2009. San Francico, CA

This artwork was made during my exploration of process art-making in which conditions are created and then the artwork is allowed to reveal itself rather than being a product of my control. I love
